Hamas delegation agrees to formation of reconciliation government for Gaza
This week, a Hamas delegation is meeting with Egyptian officials in Cairo this week in initial preparations for comprehensive unity negotiations in October. According to Maan News, Hamas is willing to set up a government which will include technocrat figures and members from several factions. Hamas would relinquish the premiership, but has negotiated a handful of ministry posts that would remain under Hamas control. Hamas demands that the new government follow the Mecca agreements. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, however, prefers to follow a program set out by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).
